ICE AGE - ART AGE
ice sarcophagus,
last summer's flowers.
deafening silence--
ferocious frost
sculpting new plantscapes.
inhaling needle-like breaths--
echinacea's quills
rendered harmless.
a blue jay squawking--
black eye susan
adorned with jewels.
basking in raw light--
green of summer
refusing to fade.
to be young, again--
ice studs,
fashion of deep freeze.
in the roots, spring breathes--
deconstructing
calligraphic forms
nature talking--
thorns holding unto crystals
until they will be taken away
by a warming front--
rose hips
waiting for a tea pot.
winter garden luminaries--
crown of echinacea
collecting the storm's jewels
raw january--
remnants of christmas
scintillating in morning rays.
still humming carols--
echinacea flower
harbinger of health,
glorious, even in afterglow--
sketch of winter
once shaking its leaves,
now naked--
weaving a perch
for hungry birds.
garden's alphabet--
cardinal preaching
to the already converted
bird watcher--
among a geography of greys,
bramble's color.
winter's blue note--
festive vernonia
elegantly posing
for the onloooker--
prospecting diamonds,
morning star
sunbathing--
disheveled,
a queen's lace
still standing proud--
vernonia's underskirts
reminiscent of warmer days.
summer long gone--
no more spiders
to host.
pine needles--
red farm truck driver
dreaming of yesterdays.
more frosts coming--
all
